Summary

Absence is one of the most persistent problems affecting productivity, profitability and competitiveness. It is also a major drain on the economy and competitiveness of the individual organisations.

At the end of the programme participants will:

  • Have an understanding of best practice in the field of absence management
  • Gain the ability to analyse the scale and impact of absence in their workplace
  • Understand & practice the skills involved in managing the process 
  • Have knowledge and appreciation of the applicable employment law in this area

 

This programme is for:

Managers and HR specialists who wish to improve their knowledge, competencies and skills in the area of absence management. This programme is also suitable for line managers with responsibility for managing absence within their teams.

 

Approach

There are a number of activities and case studies as part of the course to ensure that the key knowledge and skills are practiced.
The programme is delivered by experienced facilitators who provide members with advice, consultancy and training on a daily basis. Participants are encouraged to express their views and experiences. Case studies and exercises will be used to ensure a real practical understanding of each topic.

Programme Director

Patricia Sugrue

Patricia joined Ibec in 1990. She has been actively involved in training managers in managing people skills throughout her career. She currently runs a number of specialised Ibec public programmes including Diploma & Certificate courses in Industrial Relations, Discipline and Dismissals and Negotiations workshops. She is also actively involved in in-company training programmes. 

Her areas of expertise are industrial relations, employment law, discipline and dismissals, managing absenteeism, poor performance and bullying & harassment, dispute and conflict resolution, preparation and presentation of cases to the Labour Court, the Conciliation and Adjudication Officers’ Services of the WRC.

Gail Maher

Gail is an Employer Relations Executive with Ibec, advising companies on the real issues that employers face every day. Gail has extensive experience in guiding members around the nuances of employment law and how it applies in practice. She delivers training to companies on the areas of absence and running disciplinary processes.
