Summary

This course is designed to help organisations proactively manage intoxicants in the workplace.

At the end of the programme participants will:

  • Understand the legal requirements that relate to this topic
  • Have the tools to develop and/or review an Intoxicants Policy
  • Provide guidance on how to address an intoxicants issue when it presents in the workplace
  • Understand when to engage medical services
  • Appreciate the advantages and disadvantages of intoxicants testing including the testing rationale, types of testing, testing methodology and follow-up
 

This programme is for:

HR Professionals, OSH Professionals, People Managers, Supervisors and anyone managing Safety Critical roles.

 

Approach

This online session will include interactive polls, and discussion throughout the programme which ensures that all of the learning is applied in a real way. The facilitator encourages group discussion, and involvement throughout the session, ensuring opportunities for questions and real issues are discussed at all times.

Programme Facilitator

Elaine Bowers

Elaine has over twenty years experience working in the area of Environment Health and Safety- including five years working in Ibec's Employer Relations Division and now in Ibec Academy as a Senior Commercial EHS Executive. She has particular interests in the cross-over between OSH and the Human Resources function, as well as EHS Management Systems and Corporate Sustainability. 

She holds an MSc in Applied Environmental Sciences, a BSc in Environmental Health, a H Dip in Occupational Safety & Health and a Diploma in Employment Law.

Jo Leddy

Jo is a highly motivated, experienced OSH & Wellbeing professional. She worked as an Occupational Health & Wellbeing Lead and OSH manager in multi-national manufacturing industries for over 25 years.

Jo is an experienced lecturer and tutor in Safety, Health and Welfare at Work in UCD, NISO and Ibec Academy. Jo has been lecturing/tutoring at all levels on the SHWW programmes in UCD including the Masters in SHWW for the past twenty years. Jo designed the Ibec Academy Wellbeing Programme and has been delivering this workshop face-to-face and online for the past 5 years.

She holds an MSc SHWW (UCD); BNS (DCU); Pg Cert in Health Promotion &Workplace Wellness (NUIG); Diploma in Management and Industrial Relations (NCI); Diploma in Mediation Studies (UCD). Jo is a chartered member of IOSH.

Claire Jones

Claire Jones joined Ibec over 20 years ago and currently is working as the Senior Executive in Ibec Academy. Claire worked in the legal department in Ibec for the first 12 years specialising in Employment Law.

She had particular responsibility in the area of Equality and Bullying and Harassment in the workplace providing advice and assistance to member organisations, introducing guidelines for employers in the area of equality, providing management training and representing member companies in the Employment Appeals Tribunal, Labour Court, Rights Commissioners and Equality Tribunal. Claire has also represented Ibec on UN, EU, Government and State Agency committees in the area of equality.
